Write for the paper

Spin (Nirvana, In Utero; The Offspring, 1998) built band lore by connecting moments in recorded music to the cultural zeitgeist. That is generally interesting, but I think what could be even more interesting is a review that connects musical moments to events in your own life, or to events in the life of the songwriter.

Bonus points if the review contains juicy sensory details, or reveals through style and action who you are as a writer and who the musician is as an artist.

Direct interviews with songwriters about their songs would be effective too. Humans love learning even more about something they like a little bit.

An artist interview may take less time and effort than a full album review. Artists, songwriters especially, love to talk about their work.
